A. The United Nations Centre for Regional Development (UNCRD) has been organizing International Regional Forum on 3Rs since 2009 with the support of Government of Japan to promote the concept of Reduce, Reuse, Recycle in industry, service and agriculture sector. The overall objective is to establish sound material cycle society by adopting resource conservation, techniques and technologies.
B. The Regional 3R Forum in Asia was successfully launched at the Inaugural Meeting held on 11-12 November 2009 in Tokyo, Japan by UNCRD with support from the Government of Japan. Since then, this Regional 3R Forum has been organized in Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, Indonesia, Maldives and Australi with the support from respective governments, Government of Japan, and UNCRD.

Inaugural Regional 3R Forum in Asia
C. The overall goal of the forum is to achieve low carbon and sound material cycle societies in Asia through facilitating bilateral and multilateral cooperation for increasing resource and energy efficiency through the 3Rs. It also promotes environmentally sound management of wastes in the region to set in motion a regional mechanism to address 3R issues, needs and priorities in Asian countries, including emerging issues of concern in waste management.
D. The forum has been instrumental in providing innovative, effective and smart 3R based solutions on policy, institution, technology, infrastructure, financing and partnerships fronts. The 7th Regional 3R Forum in Asia and the Pacific, 2-4 November 2016, Adelaide, SA, Australia, was co-organized by the Australian Government, the Office of Green Industries South Australia on behalf of the Government of South Australia, the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO), the Ministry of the Environment of the Government of Japan (MOEJ), and the UNCRD, under the overall theme of "Advancing 3R and Resource Efficiency for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development" and under the Chairmanship of Ian Hunter, Minister for Sustainability, Environment and Conservation of the Government of South Australia.
E. The 8th Regional 3R Forum in Asia and the Pacific, 9-12 April 2018, Indore, Madhya Pradesh, India, is co-organized by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) of Government of India, the Ministry of the Environment of the Government of Japan (MOEJ), and the United Nations Centre for Regional Development (UNCRD) of Division for Sustainable Development (DSD) / UN DESA, under the overall theme of " Achieving Clean Water, Clean Land and Clean Air through 3R and Resource Efficiency- A 21st Century Vision for Asia-Pacific Communities".
